PenFelt Studio’s felting supplies at Zuckercreme
414 SE 81st Ave | Portland, OR 97215
💫 Open Wed - Sat, 12 pm - 5 pm 💫
Zuckercreme is (definitely) the cutest cafe and event space in the Montavilla neighborhood of Portland, offering coffee, ice cream and artist-made goods.
I’ve partnered with Zuck to offer a shop-within-a-shop stocked with all my favorite felting wool, tools and kits. I am also the resident felting teacher, offering 2-4 classes per month in this good vibes creative business.
Shop in-person for curated wool crafting materials
My shop at Zuckerceme is an outpost where you can buy my favorite materials that I use every day in my own studio!
Wool felt pads (long lasting, good quality)
Super Felting Wool* (my very favorite fibers to needle felt with!)
Japanese felting tools, books + kits from Hamanaka (legendary animal felting kits, high-quality Japanese-made tools like felting grips and scissors)
Felting needles (made in the EU)
Organic core wool (affordably priced, very clean medium-coarse wool, in 1/4 lb, 1 lb and 3 lb increments)
Curly locks (sourced farm-direct from Oregon shepherds)
PenFelt Studio kits (simply packaged single-serving kits designed for beginners - great for gifting the aspiring felters in your life)
*Super Felting Wool I offer both the carded wool roving from Harrisviille Designs (milled in the USA, a merino cross in gorgeous heathered colors) and Maori Wool (slightly coarser carded batting from New Zealand sheep). Both are have the perfect texture for needle felting - and they wet felt well too. Come buy exactly as much or as little as you need, package free - sold by the ounce ($7/oz).
From online to IRL:
The true story of my journey in and out of an e-commerce business.
In 2020 I designed and manufactured a line of felting kits based on my most popular classes, so people could felt at home during the pandemic. I learned the language of SEO and unboxing so I could ship colorful wool to customers all over the world. I made tutorial videos for my YouTube channel and spent a lot of time on Zoom teaching people how to felt.
A classic pandemic small business pivot! After four years of spending most of my days on the computer, I had to make a change.
In 2024 I closed my webshop so I can focus on two of my favorite offline activities: teaching in-person classes and making artwork. I am (re)choosing a business model that is smaller, slower and exists mostly offline. I believe deeply that handcraft and gathering in person generates well being and good humor, two things our hurting world sorely needs.
I currently maintain my Portland shop-within-a-shop at Zuckercreme, so my students and local customers can still get my thoughtfully sourced felting supplies. Come take a class or visit the shop IRL… let’s hang out! 👋
